Description
Thanks for looking.4 pounds. I have longer pieces on another listing.
These rounds are drops from a manufacturing process that uses 4140 or 41xx analog.
They are variously marked black & white (4140), white (4140), blue, or orange.
Our newest digital x-ray spectrometer gun is kaput & being serviced.
We had to fall back on the old analog tape readout machine.(It gives no carbon content either).
The results are accurate when we repeated them but alloy is curious.
It most closely matches 4140 but falls short on the Molybdenum, but has Vanadium & Niobium which are added to low-alloy high-strength alloys like 945 (but they generally don't have Nickel & Chromium).
I can warrant its tensile & yield strength but cannot unequivically commit to saying 4140.
If you need that- sorry. Also I am not going to root around and find one specifically marked.
Below are the readouts:
Fe 97.3%
Mn 0.92
Ni 0.49
Cr 0.41
Si 0.22
Pb 0.1
Mo .05
Sn .04
Al .0311
V .0227
Ti .02
Co .02
Nb .01
If you recognize this exact alloy, I'd be curious to learn that.
