Description
CUSTOM, ONE-OF-A-KIND 123 year-old Antique Adlake (Adams & Westlake) Regular (Early Model) c. 1897, completely refinished with a new Birdseye Maple veneer covering. This is a manual plate changing camera, and although it looks like a magazine camera, it holds up to 12 steel plateholders inside the top door compartment behind the focal plane. These plateholders are manually inserted into a slot behind the focal plane and the top door is closed. The lever on the side of the camera under the handle opens the front of the plateholder for exposure. Made in 3 ¼ʺ x 4 ¼ʺ and 4ʺ x 5ʺ sizes, this camera uses the 4ʺ x 5ʺ size plates, with 6 plates included. Unlike the later versions of the Regular, this earlier model has no brass escutcheon around the plate changing lever nor the shutter release, nor are the upper viewfinder rims embossed with the company name. Later models have the distinctive round brass shutter housing, whereas this model has an internal guillotine shutter system, and the aperture is changed by turning the knurled brass fitting surrounding the top front viewfinder port (turning is difficult/stiff due to swelling of wood surrounding the fitting however). Viewfinders are clear and bright, lens is clear, haze and fungus free, shutter is fully operational. Customized with a Birdseye Maple veneer and polished hardware, this camera is a one-of-a-kind creation, perfect for display in any camera collection or gift for the avid camera collector! This custom antique Camera will ship insured and will come with a gift bag and an artist certificate of authenticity.
There is no warranty on operability; cameras are intended for display purposes only.
Think about this wonderful antique camera for your own collection or as a gift for that special photographer/camera enthusiast for the holidays or any special occasion.
