sed in microscopy for making various stains including stains for glycogen, mucin, nuclei and chromosomes.
Bright red color obtained from carminic acid. It has use as a microscopic stain and biological marker. Uses Orth's Lithium Carmine for demonstrating nuclei in animal tissue, best's stain for staining glycogen, Mayer's Mucicarmine in conjunction with Hematoxylin and Metanil Yellow (mucin stain), stain for trematode whole mounts, Iron Acetocarine (nuclear stain for temporary preparations), precipitated Borax Carmine for nuclear stain for permanent preparations, alcoholic-hydrochloric acid Carmine for chromosomes at various stages of nuclear division.
