This is a handcrafted instrument built by me at Schmied Guitars. This is a 3 string
fretless
Cigar Box Guitar. . This is an acoustic guitar that can be amplified, it has a single piezo pickup inside the box, you can plug it into a guitar amp with a standard guitar cable.
Guitar details:
Length: the guitar length is 34 Inches
Body: I used a "Perez Carrillo Pledge" cigar box, the box size is 10 x 8 x 1.5 inches deep.
Neck and fingerboard: The neck is made from oak and fingerboard is clear poplar wood. It has marked frets and side dot markets for better reference, and cedar inlaid fret markers. There is some detail work done at the heel and peghead using cedar laminations (darker wood) that gives a nice contrast to the oak.
Bridge: I handmade these bridges using hardwoods and corian.
Tuning: This one is tuned to Open G (GDg), With these same strings you can tune it up to open A or change the strings and get the tuning you want.
Scale: I used a 24 ½ inches scale from nut to bridge
Fretless: This guitar is intended for slide playing only, the action is high and needs to be played with a slide (see my bottleneck and copper slides)
