Lewis 4 x 5 Daguerreotype / Wetplate Camera built by Ray Morgenweck

This Lovely Lewis Camera was built for me around the 6" Holmes Booth & Hayden Lens (c. 1860) I acquired in Utah,  by Ray Morgenweck of Star Camera Company about 15 years ago. The workmanship is superb. The Lewis was the FIRST of the Daguerreotype Cameras to have a bellows, rather than the sliding box-within-a-box design. It was patented in 1851 (pat. # 8513, 11 Nov. 1851).
The wetplate back is adapted for 4 x 5", 1/4 plate, 1/6 plate and 1/9 plate. I have never made Daguerreotypes, but of course would be perfect for those as well.
The geared-focus lens is clean and clear and produces sharp photos. The Waterhouse Stops were newly-made once I acquired the lens. They range from f4 to f32. This lens has a look and a "bokeh" that is very reminiscent of the early lenses of that era. You can see it in the trees of the accompanying tintype.
Included with the package are two 4X5 Dipping Boxes, a plate dipper, and a Burke & James plate-drying rack (which is not shown). It comes with a partially-modified hard Speed Graphic case which just needs the padding inside.
