    A very fine and scarce
    excavated
    example of a 2 piece pre Civil War Henry Clay Presidential campaign button of 1844 Clay ran unsuccessfully against James K. Polk.  Albert# PC-205-A1.   Backmark reads "  E. H. MAXWELL  NEW YORK  ".   Button retains much of its original gilded finish with dark patina on other areas.  Backmark is light but easily discernible.    Button measures 24.19mm.  See photos for condition details.
