    Description

    Pre-Civil War Union General Staff coat button c. 1821-1832 but also used by Zouaves, military cadets, and some volunteers during the Civil War.  Two piece button with a blank back.   Although the back is blank, early ones like this were made of a heavier gauge brass.  Ca. 1870 the same type of buttons were produced of a much lighter gauge brass.  I have few of these in great condition.  16 mm in diameter.
