    Description

    RARE US PATTERN 1826 BURNSIDE CIVIL WAR EAGLE SHOULDER BELT BREAST PLATE
    Nice condition non-dug eagle breast plate for the soldier's cartridge box shoulder belt.
    This is the smaller diameter 21/4” “Burnside” button having the hollow leaves, 2 claw, curved longer stem and coarser arrow feathers. This style of breast plate is often associated with Maine area troops.
    The edge of plate is dented and wavy.  Beautiful brass face, leaded reverse and both embedded iron loops are present and firm. This plate has semi-bright patina with some wear and polish to the high points, spots of isolated tarnish.
