TURNABOUT Hal Roach CAROLE LANDIS Adolphe Menjou 1940 PRESSBOOK + HERALD

Description

Original, studio-issued, large-sized 12” x 18” 16 page pressbook and (glued in place) 5 ¼” x 6 ¾” herald for the 1940 fantasy comedy, “Turnabout”, directed by Hal Roach (the “Our Gang” comedies), starring Adolphe Menjou (the Stanley Kubrick “Paths of Glory”; “Stage Door”; “The Sorrows of Satan”), Carole Landis (“I Wake Up Screaming”; “Topper Returns”; “Road Show”; “One Million B.C.”) and John Hubbard (the Universal horror / Lon Chaney, Jr. “The Mummy’s Tomb”). The folded pressbook is in good used condition with separated front and back covers which have substantial spine edge wear with numerous short rips and tape staining. (At some point in time, the covers were stapled down the length of the pressbook to the rest of the interior pages and reinforced with tape but the staples have been removed and the tape has mostly “flaked off” leaving old tape residue and tape stains on the spine edge of both separated covers. The interior pages show the staple marks down the length of the spine.) There is a small number (price?) 24 written in pencil in the orange background in the upper right area of the front cover. The pressbook has one replaced cut on page 15 -16 that was taped back into place with tape bleed around the replaced cut edges and red “bracket” lines drawn around the area. Interestingly, the cut was a pictured “Turnabout” Teaser Novelty (circular give-away card that was printed on thin colored cardboard) that could be ordered. A sample herald is glued in place (along the spine edge) adjacent to the Color Heralds ordering information and our photos also show the herald opened for viewing.
