War Of 1812 - Pre Civil War 2-Piece Great Coat Button Albert GI-71 Unlisted Var

Description

This button ALMOST matches GI.71.Bv on the face (back mark - ‘United States’). However Albert’s only lists a 15MM example and this button is approximately 20MM. This eagle is also looking straight down instead of off 45 degrees. Like GI.71.Bv, the arrows extend outwards. This is truly a rare unlisted variant. In addition note that this button is similar to another unlisted button I have listed, but is different. This one is more brass or copper hued and the other grayer one seems to have pewter in its composition. That button also has slightly sharper lettering on the front and back; this one is more ‘bolder (maybe a more worn die?)’. The imperfections on the front and back of this one appear to be sand or dirt, also.
