    Description

WW2 British Scottish Horse Officers theater made Embroidered Shoulder Title
    Nice example of this
shoulder title. The Scottish Horse was initially raised for the south Africa War, and became a Territorial Cavalry unit. It served through WW1 in various forms, some battalions being converted to infantry. In 1940 it was converted into two artillery units, the 79th and 80th Medium Regiments, Royal Artillery. The 79th served in Northwest Europe and the 80th served in Egypt and Italy. All other ranks wore the standard red on blue Royal Artillery shoulder titles, but officers retained the yellow on blue Scottish Horse title.
This example is embroidered on blue cotton twill and the slightly non-uniform letters imply a theater made version, which I would think more likely supports being made in Egypt or Italy and would tie this one to the 80th Regiment. It measures 4 inches long and 5/8 inches tall. It has some light wear on the top edge above the "O" in horse as well as on the corners and looks to have been removed from a uniform. A nice uncommon shoulder title which would be a good addition to a WW2 British or artillery collection.
